Ad Insertion and Opt Cuing

Ad Insertion, also known as opt cuing, allows broadcasters and network operators to switch to alternate feeds based on automated or manual triggers. This takes place, for example, when switching to local advertising during commercial breaks, or regional news broadcasts, then switching back to the main feed.

Typically, encrypted control data,  inserted into the program video by a cue encoder, is transmitted alongside the video signal and is used by the downstream cue decoder to provide closing contact relay outputs.

Softel offers Oliver™, an ad inserter/opt cue decoder that can be used in combination with vFlex™, Softel’s ancillary data processing software. Oliver provides SD/HD SDI cue encoding and decoding as well as with various options for bridging and channel support.
