Miranda has used this know-how to develop a solution to reliably and dynamically link the first and second screen. Research shows that second screen apps can significantly enhance the broadcast, but over the top (OTT) plays have fragmented the market. MediaSphere™ Bridge enables in-broadcast triggers (iMarks™) to link the television and second screen experience and offers control back to the broadcaster and operator. In turn, the viewer is offered a truly enhanced viewing experience.
Additionally, MediaSphere Bridge connects to broadcast automation from any major manufacturer and, thanks to Miranda’s unique relationships with multiple Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) system providers, is able to offer ACR solutions to facilitate interactivity between the TV and smart TVs or second screens.
With MediaSphere Bridge, broadcasters and operators can place reliable iMarks metadata triggers in the broadcast and dynamically link the content on the television with that on tablets or smart phones to drive seamless two-way interactions. MediaSphere Bridge delivers automated, system-linked, in-broadcast triggers that are 100% reliable.
The viewer can choose to begin engaging either by direct in-app selection on the second screen, or via a prompt on the television (e.g. “Hit Select/Ok”). When selecting via the remote, iMarks triggers are carried back through the cable headend, to broadcast master control. The iPad (or other smart device) then launches the enhanced experience to enable interaction with the content on the TV.
MediaSphere Bridge’s first public unveiling took place at Imagine Park, during the 2012 Cable Show.
An example app might be voting for a favorite Masters golfer, while watching coverage on the TV.
Step 1 – The viewer either triggers the dynamic interaction via their device or using their remote
Step 2 – The app launches on the second screen, and can be complimented by an enhanced experience on the TV.
Step 3 – The viewer interacts, in this case by voting for their favorite Masters winner.
Step 4 – Results are aggregated in the cloud then fed-back to the viewers on the second screen.
Step 5 – The viewer can choose to “flick” the second screen up to their TV to share the experience with others in their household.
