Broadcasters and network operators require a number of different types of video data to be processed and 'injected' into the broadcast stream. These are normally refer to as video ancillary data.

This type of data insertion requires reliability and ease of management as equipment is often in a remote location. As networks increasingly move to digital broadcasting, the manipulation of MPEG SDI transport streams and the integration with modern networking technologies are key.
